WHAT’S NEW?

  • Film rights to HINDSIGHT have just been optioned, and a screenplay is currently being written.

  • Barbara is delighted to report that she's finished her latest novel, a mystery set in New York. It's now in the good hands of her agent, Gail Hochman of Brandt and Hochman Literary Agents Inc.

  • Barbara's online school of writing, www.nextlevelworkshop.com, now includes three different on-line workshops, including the latest addition, “One Good Scene.”  Her 2011 Revising Fiction workshop has just concluded.  (See comments from students.)   The next workshop offered will be ONE GOOD SCENE, which is open to all fiction writers. This course will begin late in  2011 (date to be announced).   Class size is strictly limited and lately the classes have been filling up from a waiting list;  so writers interested in applying should contact Barbara as early as possible to get on her email list

  • In mid-October 2011, Barbara will be teaching an online course for Writers Digest called "Focus on the Novel." It's a great course for writers in the early stages of writing a novel.  Visitors to this site can get a 15% discount by using the  INSBR when registering.

  • For writers with a book to sell, Barbara is currently developing a new online workshop called “Submitting Your Work.” The lecture draws on her career as an agent and editor as well as a writer, with discussions to include the knotty subject of publishing vs. self-publishing. Participants will submit the same material as they would to an agent: a query letter, synopsis, and the opening five pages of their book—and receive feedback from classmates as well as from Barbara. Keep an eye on this site for further announcements; and if you’d like more information on this or any other “Next Level” course, email Barbara.

  • Drawing on her background as a longtime editor and literary agent, Barbara also provides editing and  manuscript evaluation services for novelists who want frank, professional feedback on their work. Most of her clients begin by taking advantage of this special get-acquainted offer --surely one of the best deals out there for writers---in which for a nominal fee she reads the first 5000 words of their novels and provides detailed feedback.
